The Statement
After Extol’s return to hiatus in early 2015, guitarist Ole Børud embarked on a new musical journey that would lead him to form Fleshkiller, a fresh breath in the death metal genre that in many ways picks up where Extol left and exhibits an amalgam of old school death metal and progressive beauty in one highly intense package.
Showcasing Ole’s signature songwriting skills Fleshkiller is sure to bring a unique voice to the scene of extreme music, a voice longed for by fans around the world.
During the writing process in 2016 the band saw its formation with the involvement of talented drummer Andreas Skorpe Sjøen (Umpfel) and later on vocalist/guitarist Elisha Mullins (The Burial, A hill to die upon) who both contributed to the tight and distinct sound of the band’s debut album ‘Awaken’. And with the addition of Ole Vistnes (Shining, Tristania) on bass the band’s line up was completed.
The music of Fleshkiller is a display of strong songwriting where high level tech death riffs and enchanting melodies posesses the ability to paint landscapes within the context of a strong rythmic fortress. Elisha’s massive death metal vocals mixed alongside Ole’s harmonic vocal palettes adds to the notion of complex musical diversity within the genre.
With their debut album ‘Awaken’ Fleshkiller sets the bar high for the future of progressive death metal and establishes themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
The cover art on the album is created by the amazing Marcelo Vasco, who has done plenty of great covers, among other the latest Slayer cover.
The Biography
Founded by Ole Børud, Fleshkiller saw the light of day as a result of Extol’s return to hiatus after their last album in 2013. The upcoming debut album entitled ‘Awaken’ was recorded and mixed between late 2015 and early 2017 at multiple locations around the world. Also written by Ole Børud, the style of music mixes old school death metal aesthetics with rich harmonic prog fusion elements. Compared to his previous efforts in the genre these new compositions spark a new level of intensity!
