Face of Oblivion on their sophomore album "Cataclysmic Desolation" continue a tech-death metal assault for all senses. Blitzing across your speakers in 12 tracks and 35 minutes, songs such as "Embracing Damnation", "Walls of Flesh" and relatively controlled "Descent" showcase the quintet’s versatility amidst all the frantic riffs, deep growls, and spirited blast mania. Suffocation and Spawn of Possession followers will dig the shape shifting musical maze that this Minnesota band make cohesive sense of, not as easy of a feat as it appears on paper.
Favorites change from day to day – I love the progressive guitar lines a la Death that weave into "Seismic Anomaly" as well as the slow to blast change on a dime turns of "Paradoxical Undressing" which are also equaled on a growl to scream front by Jesse Watson. Chaos and destruction inevitably occur whenever Face of Oblivion turn on their equipment – tech death metal followers have another platter to savor.
