BULT – Traitors

Progressive alternative death metal – there’s a mouth full to say, and equally as intriguing to process aurally. Bult from Gothenburg, Sweden on this full-length "Traitors" have a lot of modern groove and metal-core oriented screams, but it’s countered with off-time progressive tempos, shifting rhythms, plus challenging instrumental sections. Imagine Lamb of God careening headlong into the Deftones and possibly Mastadon and that will give you a clue into the explosive swings of heaviness, atmosphere, and turbulence you’ll face. 75% of this album has tracks over 6 minutes, so prepare for longer instrumental sections and a boatload of buildups, breakdowns, and riff changes.
Occasional psychotic-oriented spoken word passages make the verses of "Shattered" entertaining, while the quicker 3:52 "The Unbreakable Barrier" keeps Bult on more of a straighter outline. Tight chemistry and interesting twists keeps "Traitors" moving along very nicely, not an easy trait when the music is this left-field and progressive. Possibly a hidden gem to think about down the line.
