DIARY OF SECRETS – Back from the Start

A Greek heavy metal band that seem to straddle the fence between conventional power riffs and a touch of modern spirit for this 4 song EP "Back from the Start". A versatile teaser, as "Paris (instrumental)" has a lot of the Trivium/ Megadeth stomp factor against some Gamma Ray/ Firewind like guitar harmonies and flash, while "Stone Heart Bleeding" appears in unplugged form – originally appearing on their debut album, featuring an emotional, bard-like Nick Garas on vocals. "The Voice" that closes this EP has a lot of double bass/ snare juggling from drummer Kyriakos Tsakalidis and news samples surrounding the guitar harmonies and melodic, multi-part chorus.
Given my first exposure to the group, I’d say Diary of Secrets have potential – not veering too far into modern territory but also giving their traditional/power influences a little bit more of a kick in the rear end. Can’t wait to hear what the second full-length offers down the road.
