THUNDRA – Angstens Salt

The Norwegian entity known as Thundra has released a string of pretty decent and entertaining albums previously, so naturally I was quite looking forward to checking out this latest viking-esque assault of theirs. "Angstens Salt" contains seven rather long compositions that are all pretty damn epic, bombastic, and catchy in my humble opinion.

I quite like the production of the album in that it is neither too clean nor too sterile. It is somewhat warm, organic, and slightly murky in a positive sense, but all instruments are clearly audible. The vocals are quite varied and compliment the music nicely while the rest of the guys all handle their instruments perfectly well. The mellow and moving parts consisting of clean guitars and keyboards and so on infuse the songs with variation and serve as a good contrast to the heavier parts. There is an underlying sense of melancholy and longing to "Angstens Salt" that really appeals to me and makes for an interesting listening experience throughout, and while the album is neither a must-have nor an essential release as such, it is nevertheless very solid, interesting, and atmospheric.
