NUMBNUTS – Smokey The Salmon And The Horny Mermaids

Ten years in the making, the debut album from Denmark’s Numbnuts is an amalgam of metal, punk, hardcore and power groove. Re-engineering a Dire Straits’ classic to heavier formation as “Satans Of Swing”, the other 8 songs showcase a sense of humor lyrically even if the music is full throttle upon impact – especially “Modern Metal Cliché” and “The Shorty Song”. Simpler precise riffs combine with alternative screams and gruff melodic-death melodies to make Numbnuts on point with much of the current youth movement, although the production is a bit more lively with the guitars slicing fiercely through the mix.

Good for an occasional spin, but I prefer Mercenary’s more metallic sound over this multi-flavored approach.
