READING DUO LOST VELVET ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM ‘DARK CELLS’ AND DROP NEW SINGLE

UK cinematic alternative rock duo LOST VELVET unveil their new single and video, 2003, out now, ahead of the release of their debut album, Dark Cells, on Friday 4th September. Mixed by Michael Patterson, whose credits include Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross and Puscifer, 2003 offers another taste of Dark Cells, an album that finds LOST VELVET somewhere between post-rock atmosphere, shoegaze haze and industrial unease, combining distorted guitars, darkwave textures, subtle electronics and intertwined vocals. Hailing from Reading, England, LOST VELVET are the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Robert Butcher and vocalist Melissa Morris. Drawing influence from Radiohead, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle, the duo filter the darker side of ‘90s alternative music through a cinematic and contemporary lens, creating music that feels vast, intimate and slightly unhinged.

Since emerging in 2025, LOST VELVET have received support from BBC Introducing across multiple regions, developing a sound that moves between crushing, grunge-heavy passages and slower, drifting sections threaded with industrial undertones. The duo describe Dark Cells as a record shaped by “nostalgia, old cinema, and the pull between suspense and restraint”, built from fragments of isolation, burnout and reflection. Their aim was to create a record that feels like a “haunting, dreamlike portal” — balancing heaviness with restraint and atmosphere with impact.

2003 and its accompanying video are out now, followed by Dark Cells on Friday 4th September.
