Swedish hardcore/crust punk and raw metal outfit Knivad announce their new single “Bältad”, a short, brutal and deeply unsettling track about the loss of bodily autonomy and the terrifying reality of compulsory psychiatric care.

“In Sweden, a person registered for compulsory care can be belted for four hours straight (longer if a doctor deems it necessary). That’s half a working day for a full-time worker. Remember that when you’re sitting in the office yawning and checking your watch and it’s not even past lunch. The song is barely two and a half minutes long, but hopefully still captures the feeling of the total panic of losing the right to one’s own body.”

“Bältad” is taken from Knivad’s upcoming album “Lilla vackra människa”, due for release on September 10th.

Formed in Gothenburg, Sweden, Knivad grew out of an unnamed project started by guitarist Jonas, initially conceived around the idea of having a different vocalist perform on each new song. After a handful of demos, vocalist Manne was brought in as the permanent lead singer, and the project evolved into Knivad — a slang term for “stabbed.” Drummer Agge joined shortly after, followed by Jonas’s brother Fredrik on bass.

From the beginning, Knivad have focused on humanity’s destructive tendencies — our habit of ruining our own lives and the lives of those around us. Their music moves between fast and slow, aggressive and melancholic, balancing the rawness of hardcore crust punk with the weight and intensity of metal.

With lyrics often inspired by real events, Knivad aim to force open the eyes of those unwilling to look at the wounds in society. Their music confronts uncomfortable realities head-on: society is an open wound, and mankind is the knife that keeps it bleeding.

“Bältad” is another cut into that wound — two and a half minutes of panic, anger and helplessness.
