What a magnificent gem this uniquely composed and highly atmospheric record is! Leave it to the ever-eclectic and positively weird Gymnocal Industries to uncover and unearth something as gripping and trance-inducing as this. Resonant Duality by Takahashi & Lynch falls somewhere between electronica, ambient soundscapes, and classical-inspired music in which the piano and exquisitely crafted textures merge to stunning effect. The mesmeric quality of this stuff is simply out of this world, and the crisp production strikes a perfect balance between harboring an inviting warmth and chilling this scribe to his very bones. In terms of where we are at musically, it is somewhat impossible to draw comparisons to other acts and artists out there, which speaks volumes about its originality and distinct feel, but imagine a cross between Lyckantropen Themes by Ulver and the darkest parts of Angelo Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks soundtrack and that might give you an indication of where we are at. Contrasts and dichotomies constantly wrestle with each other within each composition, there are multiple shades of light and gloom in play throughout, and the very idea of having two such talented individuals as Charles Lynch and Takahashi collaborate is as inspired as they come.
