ABSTRAKT LAKE – new album out now

Abstrakt Lake is the instrumental, electro-organic project of multi-instrumentalist Balthazar Klimt. A curious musician who dabbles in everything, Balthazar has spent the last ten years working on projects influenced by rock, electronic, metal, progressive rock, and world music.

His growing interest in field recording led to the creation of Abstrakt Lake. A first single was released in 2024, “The Pond Below,” which was noticed by the British magazine Prog, followed by an eponymous album and “Meanderings” in 2025. The third part of the trilogy, “Moments // Elements,” is scheduled for release in March 2026.

Abstrakt Lake’s music is based on field recording, i.e., recording sounds outdoors, or at least outside the controlled environment of a studio. The album title is very literal—it is a collection of “moments” (such as Christmas by the fireside in “St. George’s Fire” or schoolchildren leaving their classroom in “Zone 112”) and “elements” (water and ice in “Vann og Is, recorded in Tromsø, Norway”, wooden stakes in “The Greenway,” frogs at the edge of a pond in “Little Letoon,” which features the faithful Artem Litovchenko on cello…).

All recorded sounds are then reworked (sometimes to the point of becoming unrecognizable!) and turned into loops, percussion, pads, or synthesizers. The whole thing is then rearranged, polished, and embellished in the studio using vintage electronic sounds, particularly from the Soviet era, chosen for their rough and imperfect character, which blends well with field recordings.

Like the first two albums, “Moments // Elements” was mixed and mastered by Latvian musician Vadik Squarez (from pop-metal band All the Devils) and is distributed by the label Wormhole World Records.”
