Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:
We are Before the Sirens, from Hertfordshire UK. Our latest release is a 5-track EP called “As It Is Above, So It Is Below”, which was released on the 19th December 2025.
What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?
I’d say one of the hardest parts about being in a band, personally, is the level of online engagement you need to have to keep yourself at the forefront. There are so many great bands who are all putting out fantastic social media content, you have to keep up. Playing shows is the easy bit in comparison.
When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?
We received some really amazing feedback from shows, and when we released new music we were getting incredibly positive reviews online. We were even getting plays in other countries as well. One of the tracks from the new EP was the Christmas number 1 on a small radio show in South Africa, which was insane to hear. It showed that our music was reaching people we never expected, and they seemed to like it.
Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?
Our latest release is an EP called “As It Is Above, So It Is Below”. Thematically this is much more uplifting than our previous releases, although the music is heavier. Creatively and technically, we’ve tried to push ourselves beyond what we did before. We have tried to keep a certain live rawness to the recording as well, we wanted it to sound authentically like us and not overly polished.
How does a song typically come together for you?
Songs can come together in different ways; sometimes it’s simply the result of a jamming session, other times someone will come in with a song pretty much finished, with just some final tinkering needed. Occasionally it will start form a single guitar riff, or maybe a drum pattern, and we build on that. Because we’ve known each other for so long we work very well creatively and tend to know where an idea should go without much discussion, it’s a very natural process.
How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?
Our sound is a bit of a mixture, bringing together elements from metalcore, thrash, groove metal and hard rock, a lot of styles we listened to in our teens. We love a melodic chorus and a heavy breakdown, and if it can get heads banging then we’re happy. If you like Killswitch Engage, Alter Bridge, Metallica and a dash of Breaking Benjamin then give us a listen!
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?
We would like listeners to take away the fact that we are, really, just who we are. We don’t try to be something we’re not. We are four friends who have fun writing and playing music together, and to us that is what it should be about.
Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?
We would love to tour Europe, there are so many great festivals in Germany, France, Scandinavia, Poland, Czech Republic etc. Not to mention the food and drink along the way…
How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?
We have definitely gotten heavier and darker over the years. We’ve tried to push ourselves, whether that’s speed, technicality, arrangement, but still make it sound like “us”. Although we all share a lot of influences, we do all have our own unique things we like to add in as well, which can give a new song a very different feel than what was originally expected.
How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?
We are all very excited for 2026. We have some shows coming up, which is what we love doing the most, but we’re also working on some new music. We hope to be back in the studio this year, but only when we’re totally happy with the songs.
