Eleven years after their Beatles tribute album, the factory led by Christian Marras releases an album inspired by Billy Milligan’s sensational story. A concept about inner voices, it blends progressive rock and experimentation, featuring a great special guest: King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto
Founded in 2014 by multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Christian Marras, Ergot Project debuted two years later on AMS Records with an interesting heavy/electro/prog tribute of the best Beatles songs (Beat-Less, 2016). Nearly ten years later, with the exceptional involvement of legendary drummer Pat Mastelotto, Christian and Ergot Project return with something completely different, the excellent A Family Secret, a concept album loosely inspired by the story of Billy Milligan, the protagonist of a famous multiple personality disorder that caused sensation in the United States in the 1970s. A true media sensation, but also a unique phenomenon in American judicial history, which has also inspired books, theater, and cinema (for example M. Night Shyamalan’s movie Split).
Through the narrative device of a biographical story, A Family Secret tells an allegory of the multiple inner voices that inhabit each person: fears, desires, conflicts, fragilities. The result is a musical journey balanced between progressive rock and electronic experimentation, in which dense, layered atmospheres guide the listener through an emotional labyrinth where nothing is as it seems.
Ergot Project was born from an idea by Sardinian musician Christian Marras: a collective open to multiple artistic expressions, whose sole purpose is total creative anarchy in the creation of new musical productions. It’s a factory where the working group, directed by Marras, constantly changes according to needs, allowing for the expansion of sonic and artistic experimentation. The very special guest in this new album is Pat Mastelotto, the extraordinary drummer of King Crimson, O.R.k., Stick Men and many others.
