VENTURES – interview

VENTURES – interview

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

We’re Ventures from Manchester, England. We are a 4 piece metalcore band made up of Ollie May on vocals, Richard Taylor on guitar, Jordan Etches on bass and Jon Burrows on Drums. Our latest release “Melt with Me” is about embracing and nurturing your inner child.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

I would have to say arranging everything around band members’ schedules, 2 of us work in hospitality so there can be different days they’re free

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

Around 6 months into just jamming with the old members. We originally formed just to write music and jam in practice rooms, with no intention of ever playing live shows. One thing led to another and now we wouldn’t go back on it at all. We love playing live more than anything

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

As stated above “Melt with Me” is about embracing and nurturing your inner child rather than mourning your childhood, ensuring you never lose touch with your true self. This song has been in development for the past three years, and we have finally found the direction we want to take and would love to hear what everyone thinks.

How does a song typically come together for you?

One of two ways, either one of us will have an idea or even a full song demoed out and then we’ll all just listen and learn before adding our own flavours etc or we’ll lock ourselves in the band room and just jam away until we have an idea of something new then Richard and Jordan will go away and mould the music into Ventures

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

Different. I know what a cliche but we are!

We’re a metalcore band by genre only as we don’t put any music idea away everything is worked into something or kept away until we can figure out what we want to do with it, we’d even release some DnB tracks if we knew what we were doing.

Our next release “Portrait” would probably show the biggest difference between our songs, it is more Pop-Metal

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

With any luck the same wonder and enjoyment we have making it

Nothing beats when your fans love the music as much as the artist, the fans really are the reason we get to continue doing this.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

Anywhere so far! We haven’t really had a tour so far in our run, we’ve had the odd weekender here and there

If any bands are interested in taking us on the road please get in touch

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

We’ve come from singing about partying all day to being yourself and making sure no one lets you feel bad for something out of your control

How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?

We are, we’re hoping to start work with a booking agent towards the end of 2024 into 2025 so expect to see a lot more of us in your city soon
