Tommy DeCarlo (Boston) possesses an impressive set of pipes and is undoubtedly a great singer and front man, but this album entitled Dancing in the Moonlight, which is primarily written by Frontiers Records’ in-house composer and musician Alessandro Del Vecchio, is a huge letdown and utterly forgettable. AOR and soft melodic rock are the order of the day, and DeCarlo has very little of depth and substance to work with here as the songs sound as if they were written by someone who is running on autopilot and merely churning paint-by-numbers rock that is as uninspired as it is frustratingly lackluster and unmemorable. Only ‘This Road Will Lead to You’ and ‘Home to You’ sparkle a little, but other than that, Dancing in the Moonlight fails to move and engage the listener, and the record sorely lacks identity, charisma, and purpose. Again, DeCarlo is a fine vocalist, but this LP is a pointless affair that comes across as a dead end, musically speaking, that is.
