SOIL – Play It Forward

I was quite curious as to how a covers album by the American outfit SOiL would sound, and as it turns out, it sounds pretty damn good and solid.

SOiL’s brand of punchy, hard-hitting rock is totally intact here in the sense that they have left their own mark on these loud, gritty, and rambunctious renditions of classic cuts a la ‘Thunder Kiss ’65‘, ‘I Wanna be Sedated‘, ‘Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck‘, and ‘Rockin’ in the Free World‘. Heavy and with just the right amount of fuzz and raw edge to the guitars, the record is constantly propeled forwards by the energy and vigor of the group’s performance. While the selection and execution of these tunes are inspired, what makes this stand out is its enthusiasm and positive vibe. Spirited, uplifting, and a recommended listening experience for all you awesome rock ‘n’ rollers and metal freaks out there.
