SONISK BLODBAD – The Shores of Oblivion

The Norwegian ensemble known as Sonisk Blodbad is an intriguing one and the richly textured new opus of theirs entitled “The Shores of Oblivion” is as dark, haunting, and delightfully experimental as one could have hoped for. Layers and waves of electronic sounds wash over the listener and slowly but surely sucks you in to the point where its otherworldly and melancholy com­positions collectively turn into an immersive experience that is in equal parts moving and unsettling. While one could point to the Berlin school of electronic music as well as kraut­rock and ambient music in general, this disc possesses a unique sound and aura that is unlike anything else out there, and Sonisk Blodbad have harnessed and refined their very own musical identity that shines through in every nook and cranny of this captivating record. The two standout tracks, namely the title cut and “An Echo in the Dungeon of My Heart”, are as beautiful and spellbinding as they are eerie and trance-inducing. Brilliant stuff and definitely something that the openminded listeners out there ought to invest in.
