TURBULENCE – Frontal

Now this is some impressive and incredibly varied stuff. Entitled “Frontal” and containing eight rather lengthy compositions that fall within the progressive metal sphere, the Lebanese outfit named Turbulence has crafted a dazzling and memorable slab of emotionally charged music that is as challenging as it is rewarding. Things move seamlessly from aggressive, hard-hitting parts to calm, almost meditative passages that will lull you into a fall sense of security. Explosive one minute only to turn around completely the next and offer tranquility, “Frontal” is truly a dynamic and musically diverse effort that will surprise and delight you. The emotive vocals are strong, the production is powerful and appealingly crispy, the song material is classy and elaborately constructed without being overly complex, and those jazz-influences that sneak into the musical framework are a breath of fresh air.
Although they are not necessarily breaking new ground within the prog metal sphere, Turbulence have certainly created a hugely potent, vibrant LP that is fabulous while simultaneously hinting at even greater things to come. This is definitely a band to watch and a wonderfully invigorating listening experience that is not necessarily that easy to put into words, so you had better check it out yourself.
