ISSA – Queen of Broken Hearts

ISSA – Queen of Broken Hearts

Given that this one was released a couple of months ago, I shall try to keep this little review of mine as short and concise as possible. The sixth melodic hard rock record by the skilled Norwegian singer Issa is a polished and slick affair boasting a pristine sound and some impressive vocals, but sadly, the compositions are uneventful and predictable.

There is neither a sense of excitement nor any surprises to be found here, and gifted though all the musicians involved in the endeavor are, the album offers no thrills, and they play it safe from beginning to end. There are several good melodies present on the disc, but things simply fail to take off and "Queen of Broken Hearts" never reaches any peaks or delivers anything resembling a dramatic and/or climactic tune. Again, these are talented and competent musicians, and you can hear them doing their best here, but the song material is not up to par and leaves a lot to be desired in terms of depth, substance, longevity, and catchiness. Overall, this is a forgettable output that fails to engage me on any emotional level, which is disappointing.
