W.E.T. – Retransmission

W.E.T. – Retransmission

The incredibly skilled hard rock ensemble known as W.E.T. recently released this extremely uplifting and hook-laden batch of songs in the shape of "Retransmission", and the whole thing is filled to the brim with huge infectious choruses, instantly memorable melodies, muscular riffs that possess power and class, and superb vocals. Even the guitar solos are catchy!

The record boasts a great sound and a really well-balanced mix, and there is plenty of punch and bombast coursing through it from beginning to end. The captivating ballads provide a nice contrast to the crunchier outbursts, and this is a spirited record full of passion that, ideally speaking, we should all be listening to in times like these. It is just impossible not to be swept away by it all and singling out favorite tracks seems like a lame and futile exercise since there are no fillers present on the disc. Okay, damn it, there is no getting around the fact that "How Far to Babylon" and "How Do I Know" are the highlights to these ears.

This is all about quality songwriting rather than innovation. If glorious 80s-inspired (melodic) hard rock with a fantastic drive and a seemingly endless supply of energy to it sounds appealing, then "Retransmission" is for you. Elegantly written, all-out impressive, and a truly enjoyable listening experience. Fucking marvelous stuff and the best W.E.T. album yet. Let us hope these guys will schedule a tour as soon as the pandemic is a thing of the past.
