MORTIIS – Throe

MORTIIS – Throe

This short and concise 10-minute EP by the renowned Mortiis came out in December last year and might well have passed some of you out there by, so I figured that I would write a few words on the cursed piece and simply point out that this is quite the interesting (and vile) little gem.

The soundscapes and sketches that constitute "Throe" are among the darkest and most claustrophobic tracks that Mortiis has ever conjured up, and the whole affair is ridiculously sinister and unsettling. In many ways, it comes across as a dissonant and nasty soundtrack to a short horror movie, which is obviously a compliment, and it falls somewhere between creepy industrial music, darkwave, dark ambient, and drone-like textures. I love the experimental nature and somewhat intuitive vibe of the ugly fucker, and if you are on the lookout for an intense albeit short listening experience, then make sure you look up "Throe" on Bandcamp.

In short, this is a wicked addition to the Mortiis catalogue and definitely worth investigating if you are a fan of Vond’s "Green Eyed Demon" and malevolent soundtracks in general.
