CARPATHIAN FOREST – Likeim – EP

It has been a while since the Norwegian sickos known as Carpathian Forest have crossed my path, but things are obviously afoot in their foul and blackened camp as evidenced by this 2-track EP entitled “Likeim”, which acts as a precursor to their upcoming full-length assault. The title track is the main draw of this EP for sure. There is not a whole lot of depth or substance to it as such, but it is a wild and reckless track with a solid drive to it not to mention that it contains some utterly catchy riffs and memorable vocals.
On top of that, it is as rotten and ugly as an old corpse, just the way Carpathian Forest’s filthy graveyard black metal ought to be. Short, nasty, and to the point. The second cut is a decent and entertaining cover rendition of Turbonegro’s “All My Friends are Dead”. It has a morbid charm to it, but nothing more than that really.
“Likeim” is a pretty cool EP that works quite well as a teaser for the album that these fuckers are currently wrapping up, but this is neither a must-have nor essential unless you consider yourself a fan of the band. Still, the title track is definitely worth giving a few spins, so check it out if you get the chance.
