The Statement

The Norwegian band Atrox have always been something different within the metal scene. Starting off in 1990 in Trondheim from the ashes of the death metal band Suffocation, they could easily be labeled as a melodic doom metal band. After the debut "Mesmerized" in 1997, the band transformed and came back with new members and a totally new sound in 2000 with "Contentum". Over the years, more members have changed and their style have progressed for each album. Now, with "Monocle", their first album since 2008’s "Binocular", they’ve finetuned their highly progressive, experimental and industrial sound, and are back with full force.

"Monocle" shows a darker side of the band, with more epic and atmospheric elements than earlier. At the same time, there are some extremely catchy and upbeat parts throughtout the album, cementing the unique and special sound Atrox have. It’s safe to say they’ve again progressed further, building on the rich musical legacy of the band since their beginning.

The Biography

ATROX is a schizometal band from Trondheim, Norway. The band was originally started in 1988 under the name "Suffocation", but obviously changed this in 1990.
During the first 8 years ATROX recorded several demos and did lots of gigs together with bands like EQUINOX, EDGE OF SANITY, CONCEPTION, WITCHHAMMER and GODSEND.
The music style was epic/death/doom and in 1997 the band released the 7" vinyl "Silence the Echoes" on Danza Ipnotica, and the debut album "Mesmerised" on Head not Found. Both recieved great reviews.

In 1998 ATROX signed with Season of Mist and released "Contentum" in 1999 and "Terrestrials" in 2001.
The music style changed to progressive avant garde metal during these releases.

In 2003, after several lineup changes, ATROX signed with Code666 and released the fourth album "Orgasm". The music style was more progressive, clearly inspired by Meshuggah and The Gathering. "Orgasm" got some of the greatest reviews in the bands history.

In 2004, ATROX‘ long-time female singer left the band. This resulted in the arrival of Rune Folgerø, whos playful approach to music and melody would change the band forever. The eccentric, Patton-ish vocal style and tonality took ATROX to a new level – and the ability to reach a much broader audience.

In 2008, ATROX re-signed with Season of Mist and releasd the most successful album to date, "Binocular". The reviews were simply outstanding and this led to a substancial number of gigs around Europe.
The music style changed to more groove based schizo-prog metal, with the use of loops, samples and beats as well as organic instruments like hammond organs and accordion.

In 2009, ATROX started working on the follow-up, and after a few years of working on and off, the release is set to 2013! 2013 became 2017 and finally the new album is ready!
