CURSE OF DENIAL – The 13th Sign

A relatively new blackened death metal band from Cleveland, Ohio, three-fifths of Curse of Denial also played together in the death metal group Descend – so familiarity brings about a confident style out of the gate for these musicians. "The 13^th Sign" contains nine songs beyond the intro and outro – giving the listener a primal production and sonic outlook that can move from doom/death to alluring Scandinavian blackened textures in terms of the higher energy riffs or hyper screams. Certain songs like "Malthusian Nightmare" and 7-minute plus "The Aphotic Zone" even engage Maiden-like musicianship moves in terms of the bass and melody aspects to their normal death/black runs.

The variety pays dividends as this 51-minute record rolls along – Curse of Denial have a great foundation to build upon and elevate themselves in the extreme metal scene.
