JOE LYNN TURNER – Street of Dreams – Boston 1985

The talented and legendary vocalist Joe Lynn Turner (ex-Deep Purple, ex-Rainbow) is still out there today, gigging away and delivering the goods on stage to the delight of us, the fans. I very much admire and respect the guy and all that he has accomplished throughout the years, especially with Rainbow and Deep Purple. This live album, which, as the title indicates, was recorded back in 1985 in Boston, boasts a couple of Rainbow tunes as well as songs off Joe’s solo album entitled "Rescue You". The band is tight and you can tell that they are all on top of their game, especially Joe and bassist Barry Dunaway. The 13 melodic hard rock songs that constitute this live release are all pretty catchy and memorable, but I would have loved one or two additional Rainbow tracks as only "Street of Dreams" and "Stone Cold" appear on the disc.

While the sound quality does leave something to be desired, "Street of Dreams – Boston 1985" manages to capture a great-sounding and dynamic band on stage as well as the enthusiasm of the crowd, which, frankly speaking, is what any good live document ought to do. This one boasts good songs and possesses the right amount of energy, which is cool. If nothing else, it is interesting to hear how the band sounded more than thirty years ago and how their songs came across in a live setting.
