AMON AMARTH – Jomsviking

AMON AMARTH – Jomsviking

Amon Amarth is Amon Amarth, much like AC/DC is AC/DC, if you have the recepit for good music, why change it…. ? Meaning no major surprises here, and all the songs on "Jomsviking" would fit right in on any of these swedes 2-3 latest releases. Well, exept for the fact that this album is a concept album, with a story set in the world of the Jomsviking, the legendary order of mercenary Vikings. So, here you have more melodic death metal with sing-along choruses, catchy guitar solos and big boy Johan Hegg growling about vikings and battle. Doro Pesch is the guest vocalist this time around, featured on "A Dream That Cannot Be", but I must say I prefer "Hel" with Messiah (Candlemass) from "Deceiver Of Gods" any day of the week. Still, not a bad song.  Ok, enough of the negative critics, its undoubtly a descent album, and probably christmas eve for the die-hard fans. Me? I will probably buy it anyway, fill my horn with beer and pretend Im back on the northern shores with a sword in my hand…
