MY SILENT WAKE – Damnatio Memoriae

UK doom/death metal act My Silent Wake have been together for 10 years, as "Damnatio Memoriae" is their 8th full length. Quite a productive run, as there are split and EP efforts in between as well. I’d say overall the 8 songs on this record possess more of an old school meets groove vibe, heavy as hell and ferocious. Occasionally upping the tempo and harmonic game for the hammer swinging "Highwire", the development of a song based on sparse note bends and building the tension through subtle cymbal hits or plodding bass lines makes the close to 8 minute "Black Oil" a favorite.
Proof that you can love and respect old Paradise Lost, Katatonia, and Led Zeppelin beyond the normal Sabbath legacy to deliver addictive, morose, and morbid musical thoughts. Let the beads of sweat drip comfortably in solace, My Silent Wake wrenching the feelings pent up inside for preferred, safe release.
