SUNLIGHT – My Own Truth

A name like Sunlight sparks a power/heavy metal image, and this Greek quintet actually possess more of a melodic metal atmosphere with occasional nods to the hard rock scene on their debut album "My Own Truth". Keyboards are as essential to the style as guitars, making the title cut and "Rockin’ All Around" possess more affinity for Europe and FM, against the natural Helloween and Pink Cream 69 ideas present on these 9 songs.
As great as the guitar abilities of Makis Kaponis are, the weaker high range and proper pronunciation in certain English spots for vocalist Dimitris Giannakopoulos makes material like the mid-tempo anthem "Struggle for Deliverance" and opener "Back to Life" hard to digest. Add in a flat snare tone and you have a band not quite ready to ascend up the ladder- especially in a crowded melodic/power metal field.
