Doom metal is back my friends- the classic, down-tuned riffs, shuffle step swing grooves, and hypnotic/ melodic vocals keep people coming back for more. Slovianian five-piece Mist issue their debut EP "Inan’", a 4 song effort with no traces of stoner parts in sight. Black Sabbath, Candlemass, and Pentagram would be the three clearest influences – although singer Nina Spruk evokes occult rock meets semi-operatic overtones in her enchanting ways for highlights such as "Frozen Velvet" and "Phobia".
18 minutes is not enough doom for my tastes, so let’s hope for a full-length album as the next Mist product.
