BJØRN RIIS – Lullabies in a Car Crash

Lullabies in a Car Crash is the debut solo album of Airbag guitarist Bjørn Riis, and I will be short and to the point and state that this is a very solid and pleasant album to listen to from start to finish. Musically, the songs are progressive, dynamic, and varied, but despite their different twists and turns I find them pretty damn catchy, moving, and moody. The album as a whole has a very melancholic and haunting quality to it that suits my mood perfectly from time to time. Lyrically, the tunes all focus and reflect on alienation, loss, and abandonment, which is quite evident in "Stay Calm" and "Out of Reach" in particular. Despite the obvious parallels to Pink Floyd and David Gilmour as well as Bjørn’s other musical endeavor, namely Airbag, Lullabies in a Car Crash certainly proves that Mr. Riis is more than capable of composing original, personal, and touching music on his own. All in all a very solid, interesting, and captivating album that all you lovers of progressive rock as well as hard rock in general ought to check out. Great stuff!
