UNISONIC – For the Kingdom EP
As a prelude to the summer release of their second album "Light of Dawn", the German melodic power metal band Unisonic return with this 6 song EP. The title track appears on the new album, a solid mid-tempo offering where Michael Kiske hits his familiar upper echelon heights that bring us back to Helloween magic and the Kai Hansen/ Mandy Meyer guitar duo weave laser shots of harmonic brilliance during the extended instrumental section. "You Come Undone" is an exclusive studio song, a mid-tempo oriented anthem that has commercial leanings and has that steady hard rock groove along with guitar hero antics that make this entertaining.
The final 4 songs are live tracks from their 2012 Masters of Rock Festival appearance in the Czech Republic, all originally appearing on the self-titled debut. "Unisonic" and "Souls Alive" standing out the most to me, proof that this quintet knows their way around the melodic power metal/ hard rock genre, giving spirited hooks, harmonies, and arrangements that bring the brain and body together.
Unisonic do not disappoint, and make me anticipate the impending full length that much more.
