DARKFALL – Road To Redemption

DARKFALL – Road To Redemption

Active since 1995, Austria’s Darkfall release only their second album of their career with "Road to Redemption". 9 years after their debut album, we aren’t talking about a thrash/death act that maintains a busy road schedule a la Testament to make the fans wait so long between recordings. With 16 ex-members in their career, I can see where much of the trouble lies. Musically "Road to Redemption" is fairly safe, calculated music of a mostly mid-tempo to slightly faster variety. Vocally Thomas Spiwak has a gruff screaming nature to "Echoes From the Past" and "Fading Away" that is a tad monotone, and the snare sound is very ping pong sounding which could cause some to shut this record off quickly.

Three passes through and nothing is sticking to my brain- not a good sign. Uninspired, run of the mill thrash/death that enters the ears as quickly as it exits- Darkfall fail to capture anything remotely interesting with their songwriting and performances.
