INCANTATION – Vanquish In Vengeance

INCANTATION – Vanquish In Vengeance

Incantation, one of the true pioneers of east coast US death metal are back with their ninth studio output since their classic debut "Onward to Golgotha" (92). "Vanquish in Vengeance" is not holding back but goes all in on all accounts. The tempo on the 10 tracks are varied from from brutal straight in your face to more dragging doom but the arrangements works superb so there’s no odd transmissions.

I for once was not very happy with their last album, 2006’s "Primordial Domination" and it warms my heart to hear the Incantation we all know and love again. John McEntee still does what he does best, delivering crushing riffs in true old school style and his vocal duties does not seem to be hindered by his age. The production is fuzzy but clear and the guitars are very prominent in the mix.  On my digital version I thought some places that the vocal was lost in all the sound but I’am still waiting for the vinyl version to arrive in the mail to verify that.

Kudos also to veteran drummer Kyle Severn. He really adds something to the overall picture and when some of the riffs get to repetitive he makes sure to add a little twist in form of a fill or break.

Incantation may not deliver something new to the death metal table with "Vanquish in Vengeance" but they sure make the table stay true to its origins and  heavy as f**k.
