LEE SMALL – Jamaica Inn

LEE SMALL – Jamaica Inn

New Shy vocalist Lee Small unleashes a solo album with contributions from Gypsy Rose guitarist Martin Kronlund, Saracen keyboardist Paul Bradder, and fellow Gypsy Rose drummer Imre Daun. “Jamaica Inn” is more of a bluesy affair, stripped down with a Bad Company meets Led Zeppelin in an Eric Clapton feel. You can’t deny Lee’s expansive, expressive range, well suited to the bluesy material on offer such as “Shine A Light”, the funky “Waiting For The Hangman” and the surprising re-interpretation of the Boyz II Men classic “End Of The Road”.

Overall this is a 180 degree departure record. As such, not really something that I will regularly return to, it’s very laidback and may be more in line with eclectic fans…Kudos on the “Renegade According Player” ending with the “Carry On Wayward Son”-Kansas riff action, which pushes the rating up half a point.
