One man bands worry me. Especially in the case of this Dutch post rock/psychedelic act Hypomanie. On the second album “A City In Mono” the guitars are cold, distant and have the raw black metal transistor radio feel- the bass and keyboards giving the material a warmer feeling but then the drums bring you back to chills. The shortest song “Smile” kept my interest longer than the other 4 epics (ranging from 7 to 10 minutes), it’s perfect for dramatic movie scenes or horror theater but little else.
S. creates for himself, and I guess those into God Is An Astronaut may dig this, but I’m bored to tears.
