kosmodome-album-art-pr.png Is there anything better than being introduced to a new, exciting, and musically explorative outfit from the underground? Kosmodome is a most welcome addition to the inspired Norwegian prog rock (and to a certain extent the stoner rock) scene, and this crunchy-sounding debut offering of theirs consists of eight atmospheric and cleverly crafted songs that are beautifully layered and contain sufficient substance to warrant countless spins.

It is not that "Kosmodome" is eye-poppingly experimental as such and yet listening to it feels like a dizzying musical adventure. What shines through in every nook and cranny of each song is the unfiltered sense of enthusiasm and passion that is inherent in the material. Their cool concoction of prog rock, stoner rock, and 60s psychedelia is an effective one and works superbly with respect to evoking scenes in the mind of the listener. Some of the more gentle, melancholy melody lines actually remind me of "Leaf and Stream" by Wishbone Ash, which is a huge compliment. Things are playful and eclectic but never overindulgent or cliched by any stretch of the imagination. It truly does sound as if the skilled act is having an absolute blast playing these pieces that range from uplifting and almost carefree to somewhat harrowing and surprisingly dark. In terms of highlights and personal favorites, I simply have to emphasize the fact that "Deadbeat" is one of the best progressive stoner rock anthems ever conceived and that "Waver I" is one of the grooviest and most dynamic tunes to be found on the disc. Then again, none of the compositions falter as such and in general, this is a solid and professional-sounding effort in terms of quality, cohesion, staying power, and musicianship.

Wild, vibrant, and full of vigor, this is a must-have for all lovers of progressive music and a fucking brilliant start to Kosmodome's career. Mark my words, these talented dudes could go very far in the future. An interesting listening experience is definitely what this is and there is a subtle element of danger and mystery to this catchy, compelling, and memorable release. You should treat yourself to "Kosmodome" for Christmas this year . . . or better yet just buy the thing the very moment it becomes available in early December.
