SECRET SPHERE album cover.jpgThere is something about these Italians' knack for crafting quality music that works like a delightful charm for me and their latest output is yet another excellent symphonic power metal album with an abundance of prog traits. "Lifeblood" is simply an epic piece of work that is large in scope and where a flurry of great ideas unfolds, and there are so many layers and nuances to this hard-hitting opus that it is difficult to keep up at times, but luckily, these guys never lose focus or perspective. The emphasis is always on writing a meaty and musically rewarding tune that is as challenging as it is memorable.

There is also a grandiose feel and a bombastic edge to these big-sounding compositions (and I mean that as a compliment in case anyone is wondering), and the riffs and vocal melodies are as inspired as ever with the band's glorious ability to weave interesting musical motifs, themes, and ideas to great effect remaining intact throughout. I should probably mention that original vocalist Roberto "Ramon" Messina has returned to the fold and replaced Michele Luppi (Whitesnake), but that is by no means a bad thing as he ticks all the right melodic metal boxes for me. Just check out the two standout tracks, "The End of an Ego" and "The Lie We Love", and you will see what I mean.

There is something special about Secret Sphere's music that I find utterly uplifting and appealing, and "Lifeblood" is just as remarkable as its predecessor. With a crisp production and a lofty vibe, this is simply some powerful stuff that all who cherish galloping heavy metal with orchestrated and progressive leanings ought to check out. Very cool!
