Under Tiden Jag Sälde Min Själ Till Satan

This relentlessly bleak fucker came out in mid-December 2020 and is not merely a fiery mesh of face-melting black metal and ugly crust punk but also a rather fitting way to cap off last year from a musical and lyrical perspective.

"Under Tiden Jag Sälde Min Själ Till Satan" is a wild and ferocious trip to the worst corner of an inner hell. It is also much better and infinitely more memorable than its full-length predecessor from 2017 due to the strength of the song material in general and the fact that it shows an ability to merge mania and howls of agony in a most effective manner. These dudes keep things interesting throughout but it is arguably the subtle introspective feel of its vile compositions that make it so eerily appealing. There are explosive jackhammer riffs and noisy guitars that slash like fucking knives aplenty here, and while some parts might recall Bestial Mockery and their most powerful and vicious, others sound like something The Sex Pistols would have conjured up had they been even more depraved and fucked up than they were. What this depraved act reminds me of the most is the US horde known as Amputator though. Is the record impenetrable to the casual listener then? No, it is somewhat catchy and delightfully unpolished yet crushing and massive-sounding also. Having said that, there are hardly any moments of respite from the onslaught of raw metal and the oppressive vibes of the cursed thing, but given that it only lasts for thirty minutes it never outstays its welcome and only rarely loses its momentum.

This is end time music from the wrong side of the tracks and this is hardly the place to look if you desire something that is technically impressive or riddled with finesse. Whether you like it or not this record will overwhelm you and leave you feeling terrible about yourself and all other living things on the planet. In short, this record contains confrontational black metal that reeks of disease and despair, and Dispyt march defiantly to the beat of their own impending doom. Who knows where the sickened ensemble will head next? I would wager it is somewhere terrible.
