INADREAM No Songs for Lovers album cover.jpgThe musical collective from Bochum known as INADREAM took me by surprise as the album artwork led me to believe that these guys were a Gothic outfit or perhaps a more electronically inclined rock band of sorts, which makes no sense at all now that I really think about it, but the fact of the matter is that these guys offer uplifting and somewhat lightweight post-punk that harkens back to the glorious 80s.

You want simple and catchy riffs as well as plenty of vocal hooks? In that case, this ten-track CD may just do the trick for you. There are parallels to such legends as The Clash, The Damned, and Joy Division here, and one cannot get around the fact that there are melancholy undertones to “No Songs for Lovers” (just check out “Friends”!), but in the overall perspective, this is an enjoyable and entertaining record that will leave you feeling pretty damn good. Heck, some of the parts even remind me of Beastmilk and Grave Pleasures, but only ever so slightly, mind you. The fat, juicy bass lines rumble nicely along in the background while the warm-sounding drums drive the songs along, and the raw guitars as well as the slightly one-dimensional vocals are obviously at the forefront of the thing and add color and passion to the proceedings.

What I dig the most about “No Songs for Lovers” is that it sounds heartfelt and confident – almost as if these guys were put on this fucking planet with one specific goal in mind; to make memorable music that would take us all back to the early days of post-punk, new wave, and the likes. Nothing sounds glossy or touched up here, and it is simple albeit effective all the way through. Having said that, some cuts are better and stronger all around than others in terms of melodies, arrangements, and lyrics, but the album never outstays its welcome and comes recommended regardless of what type of punk rock you prefer. The title track is perhaps the most dynamic and musically rewarding song to be found on the disc, so make sure you check that one out if you wish to sample the output.
