Science of Disorder.jpgThe Swiss death thrashers known as Science of Disorder (who used to go by the name Soulless) are about to unearth and unleash their sophomore album in the shape of this 11-effort entitled "Private Hell". First of all, there is plenty of groove and a lot of intricate and cool details to this fucker, but it is also raw, bombastic, and suitably murky in places. Secondly, it is loaded with catchy riffs, awesome melodies, and wicked nuances.

The band present us with somewhat simple song arrangements and structures yet there are quite a few sinister twists and turns that creep into the tunes from time to time, so while the tracks are relatively easy to absorb and digest the first couple of times one listens to the disc, there is always that element of surprise and unpredictably lurking underneath the surface of it all.

Apart from great choruses, pounding drums, thick and rumbling bass lines, loud and crushing guitars, and strong vocals with diversity to them, "Private Hell" has a lot of atmosphere to it and the production is both fitting and commendable. For some reason, Entombed and the early wave of Swedish death metal comes to mind whenever I listen to this output, but many of the band's memorable parts and sections also remind me of Sepultura. Either way, Science of Disorder have clearly found a way to mix and blend death metal, thrash metal, and to a lesser extent metalcore to great effect.

Not every tune is great ("Mine" is actually pretty fucking terrible), but songs such as the driven "Carrions" and the epic "Light Bearer" are damn-near flawless and the majority of cuts are utterly solid and entertaining. All in all, this is a great slab of brutal metal that warrants repeated listens.
