HELL - Latest news from HELL

When checking out the biography of the band HELL, the intro that you found on their website is the kind of text that's rather intriguing and makes you realise you're reading about a band older than most of the stuff in your music archive, yet, who only recently started to get bigger and bigger amounts of attention: "Cited as a huge indirect influence, and as one of the true founding fathers of occult metal, the band formed in 1982 from the carcasses of UK metal bands RACE AGAINST TIME and PARALEX, whose ‘White Lightning' EP was listed by Metallica as a favourite, and which was subsequently included on the Lars Ulrich, Geoff Barton ‘NWOBHM '79 Revisited' sampler album.

Despite over five years of constant touring, the band were cruelly overlooked by the '80's music press, who just didn't get it. HELL were too different, too extreme, too musically intelligent and far too thought-provoking for all but the most enlightened to understand them. The final crushing blow came when their long-awaited 1986 album deal with Mausoleum collapsed as the label went bankrupt, followed by the tragic suicide of singer/guitarist, Dave Halliday in 1987. The remaining members drew a line in the sand and stopped playing overnight."

Luckily, 2011 was the year when the band re-released their Human Remains album, based on big efforts to resurrect the recordings made with Halliday and rearranging the material to suit the new singer, David Bower. And ever since then they were out here and there making more and more fans with their genuine stage appearance and incredibly appealing live show, both from a musical and theatrical point of view.

In February 2013 the band recorded their show in Derby and will release it on a DVD, so that the whole world can experience the Church of Hell and the madness that the 5 British men have worked hard to put together in that unforgettable show. At the end of 2013, the band will go touring as support act for Carcass and Amon Amarth and it will be their biggest tour so far. I highly recommend you catch at least one of their shows.

At Hammer Open Air festival in Lieto, Finland, Eternal Terror's journalist Andrea Chirulescu, with support from Tini Lorey and Iain Hawkins, had the chance to sit down with one of the band's guitarists and main composer, Kev Bower and got to chat about the upcoming album and tour, but also about the making of Church of Hell. As a bonus, our journalist received some 'backstage' footage and images from how the stage was built and you will find these materials included in the footage.
