STUD FARM MAFIA – Did You Have a Good Weekend?

Sweet mother of lord, this is some incredibly catchy and infectious stuff, and rarely has an EP struck these ears as being so uplifting and . . . well, entertaining, really. This is just what I needed today, but we should probably discuss its musical qualities (of which there are many) in a little more depth, right?

Okay, so what we have here is a six-track gem sporting the title Did You Have a Good Weekend? and the charming villains behind all this groovy and juicy stuff is an outfit appropriately named Stud Farm Mafia. I could in theory end my review right there as I feel that you hardly need any more information than that for you to feel inclined to checking the music out asap, but then you would probably accuse me of being lazy (and you would be right about that!), so let me just say that these compositions are filled with wonderfully anthemic choruses, big riffs that enliven the spirit and charge the mind, an abundance of hooks, and a rousing atmosphere that is impossible not to be enraptured by. Nu metal vibes, hip hop influences, a few classic rock elements, a dose of punk, perhaps a smidge of alt. pop, and definitely a wee bit of hard-hitting groove metal – all those things are present and figure prominently in the musical sphere of Stud Farm Mafia, but more than anything though, they have an identity and a charisma of their own that make them difficult to pigeonhole or sum up in a few sentences in terms of style and genre.

The bottom line is that these are well-played, bouncy, vibrant, and life-affirming songs that are impossible not to get a kick out of. If your day blows ass, try giving this excellent output a listen. This is one of the coolest UK acts I have heard in a while. Heaps of fun awaits!
