What do Cindy & Bert have in common with Black Sabbath?
It all started on a New Year’s Eve. During one of the countless chart shows that flood every TV channel on such days, one of the most perplexing cover songs in pop history was played: DER HUND VON BASKERVILLE by CINDY & BERT. The song is based on BLACK SABBATH’s PARANOID. But the instrumentation was wrapped in full 70s German schlager sound, and the lyrics were absurdly
based on the Sherlock Holmes story “The Hound of the Baskervilles”. That’s one way to do it, but you certainly can’t expect any outsider to simply reconstruct that train of thought later…
And shortly after deciding to cover this gem as well, the question quickly arose: which songs had suffered a similar fate? The research down the rabbit hole was deep and intense, and Ben Blutzukker unearthed another 13 such curiosities.
