TOBY AND THE WHOLE TRUTH – Look Out! (Vol. 1)

Renowned songwriter, screenwriter, record producer, and radio host Toby Jepson is as talented as they come, but as much as I admire his work with Wayward Sons, it is rather refreshing to once again hear same brand-new solo compositions of his.

“Look Out!” marks the first musical chapter of a planned trilogy and delivers six credible tunes (and a heartwarming introduction) that showcase Toby’s superb songwriting skills. What we have here is a proper British rock output with plenty of bite, crunch, and flavor to it, and although it carries an uplifting feel and contains a positive and inspiring message, it does not shy away from the occasional dark moment, especially with respect to the lyrics. Invigorating and colorful yet emotive and introspective, this eclectic mini-album possesses an ability to connect with the listener in a way that is definitely worth experiencing, and the way in which his influences from glam rock, country music, Americana, singer-songwriter, and classic hard rock have all been woven together so elegantly is quite impressive. This one is different to so much else out there and it is all the better for it.
