Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

We are the Non Talkers, a Pop-Folk duo from Portugal. Our latest release, “Roots,” is an album deeply rooted in our personal experiences and emotions. It explores themes ranging from love and life’s challenges to personal growth, all conveyed through a blend of emotive storytelling and melodic harmonies. This album marks a significant evolution in our musical journey, showcasing our unique blend of pop, folk, and indie influences. “Roots” is a reflection of our journey as artists and individuals, inviting listeners to connect with the stories and emotions embedded in each song.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

One of the hardest parts about being a band in this day and age is navigating the digital landscape. The music industry has shifted significantly towards online platforms, making it challenging to stand out in a saturated market. While digital tools offer great opportunities for exposure, they also require constant engagement and savvy marketing strategies. Balancing creative work with the demands of social media and online presence can be tough. Additionally, the competition for attention in the streaming era means constantly finding innovative ways to reach and retain an audience.

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

We realized the potential of our project to be more than just a fun idea from the very beginning. We approached our music with a serious and ambitious mindset, aiming to make a meaningful impact on our listeners. Our dedication to the craft and the desire to connect deeply through our music have always driven us to see this project as a significant and purposeful pursuit.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

Our latest release, “Roots,” is an album that we’re particularly proud of. It’s an exploration of personal growth, love, and the complexities of life, conveyed through a blend of folk and pop influences. This album stands out due to its emotional depth and authenticity. Each track is crafted with care, reflecting our experiences and feelings. We believe “Roots” offers a resonant and meaningful listening experience, inviting audiences to connect with the stories and emotions we’ve woven into the music. It’s an album that speaks to the heart and soul.

How does a song typically come together for you?

A song for us typically comes together through a blend of inspiration and collaboration. I, Marco, often start with a base melody, usually on the guitar, setting the foundational tone. From there, Evita and I work together on the lyrics, drawing from our personal experiences and emotions. The process is very organic, with each of us contributing our unique perspectives to enrich the song. Once we have a basic structure, we bring in additional instruments and refine the arrangement, ensuring the music and lyrics complement each other perfectly.

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

Our sound is a distinctive fusion of pop and folk with indie nuances. It’s characterized by its emotional depth and storytelling, intertwined with melodic harmonies. We blend traditional acoustic elements with modern sensibilities, creating music that’s both timeless and contemporary. Our songs are often introspective, reflecting our personal experiences and aiming to resonate with listeners on a deeper, more emotive level. It’s a sound that invites introspection and connection, appealing to those who enjoy music that touches the heart and soul.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

We hope listeners take away a sense of connection and understanding from our music. Our goal is to create songs that not only entertain but also resonate on a deeper emotional level. We want our audience to find pieces of themselves in our music, whether it’s through relatable stories, shared emotions, or simply the comfort of melody. Essentially, we aim to offer an experience that is both reflective and uplifting, encouraging listeners to embrace their own journeys and experiences.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

We would love to tour in the UK, Ireland, and the United States, as these are the regions where most of our musical influences originate. It would be fascinating to see how audiences in these countries connect with our music, given the cultural and musical ties. This tour would not only be a chance to bring our songs to new listeners but also an opportunity for us to experience the places that have inspired so much of the music we love.

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

Over the years, the sound of our band has evolved significantly. Initially, we were experimenting with various styles and trying to find our musical identity. As we grew as artists and collaborators, our sound matured into a more cohesive and defined blend of pop and folk with indie influences. We’ve become more confident in our songwriting and production, leading to music that’s richer in emotional depth and complexity. This progression reflects our journey as musicians and individuals, with each phase adding to the depth of our sound

How excited are you for 2024, and what can fans expect from you?

We are incredibly excited for 2024! It’s shaping up to be a year filled with new opportunities and experiences. Fans can expect fresh music that continues to evolve our sound, as well as more live performances. We’re also exploring new ways to connect with our audience, both online and in-person. It’s all about deepening our relationship with fans and bringing them along on our musical journey. So, stay tuned for some exciting developments from the Non Talkers in 2024!
