NECRODEATH – The Age Of Fear

A compilation of the last 23 years of Italian blackened thrash act Necrodeath’s recording output, “The Age Of Fear” gives the uninitiated 15 songs spanning 1987’s “Into The Macabre” debut through last year’s “Old Skull” cover tribute. “Queen Of Desire” gets two takes on this record – a conventional metal version and an ‘onyric’ interpretation with Mastercastle vocalist Giorgia Gueglio handling the clean parts and pianist Botys Beezard adding his classical take on this mysterious, dark track.
Originals like “Mater Tenebrarum” and “Awakening Of Dawn” have much in common with Kreator, Sodom and Venom in terms of the relentless riffing, thrash drum blasts and savage throat rumblings. Those who enjoy musicians that seem to push boundaries and play their instruments as if ready to fall off the cliff at any time will love Nercrodeath and their take no prisoners style.
Good for a cursory look see, but ultimately not very noteworthy and rather forgettable.
