PERFECT PLAN – Live at Sharpener’s House

I am quite fond of "All Rise" and "Time for a Miracle" by Swedish AOR/melodic rock outfit Perfect Plan and although one might question whether this live offering of theirs (or rather live in the studio during the pandemic) is essential as such, let me just say that it is primarily one for the fans. Then again, can you really have too much of a good thing? The charming thing about "Live at Sharpener’s House" is that these particular renditions of the group’s memorable tunes are a little looser and rawer compared to their studio counterparts and undoubtedly also more organic and vibrant.

The musicianship is stellar, the production is more than decent, and everyone delivers a memorable performance, so no problems there. Regarding the selection of songs, there are a few cuts that I easily could have done without, more specifically "Fighting to Win" and the acoustic version of "Stay", but this is generally a great setlist that illustrates the many flavors and dynamics of the band’s compositions. An enjoyable listen for sure and most definitely a performance with gusto and spark to it, which is perhaps best exemplified by the hard rocking gems that are "Heart to Stone" and "Better Walk Alone" where the Swedish gentlemen are firing on all cylinders.

"Live at Sharpener’s House" is neither a must-have nor a mandatory listen, but it is an entertaining slab of kick-ass rock music performed with class and conviction in what appears to be an informal setting where the guys are simply having fun playing their infectiously catchy tunes together.
