CRUZH – Tropical Thunder

The kick-ass Swedish combo that is Cruzh recently unleashed this eleven-track torrent of infectiously catchy songs and what we have here is a stellar example of how to craft an album that is wildly memorable and loaded with excellent vocal hooks that will bring a smile to your face.

In many ways, "Tropical Thunder" is quite simple in terms of its arrangements and structures and yet it is utterly effective and charming as hell. Apart from this being well-played and well-written hard rock, it also comes across as a labor of love and this is some real juicy stuff containing so many wicked moments that it defies belief. I love the crunchy sound and warm feel of the record, and its instantly appealing tunes are sufficiently varied to keep one engaged throughout and ready to press play again once the disc reaches its denouement.

It is as if Cruzh have taken the best parts of TNT, Return, and Def Leppard and then churned out "Tropical Thunder", which is surely an awesome thing, right? The only real downside to the LP is that the two ballads, "Cady" and N.R.J.C.", suffer from subpar melodies and lack depth, but other than that this is a marvelous piece of work and one that every lover of spirited hard rock ought to check out. Fans of other Swedish acts ala Hardcore Superstar and H.E.A.T. ought to love it too.
