SUBURBAN SAVAGES – Demagogue Days

SUBURBAN SAVAGES – Demagogue Days

Although this eight-track offering titled "Demagogue Days" by the Norwegian outfit Suburban Savages is not sparkling new as such (it was released in March this year), it recently popped up on my radar and I was immediately drawn to it and felt that a short review of the thing was in order.

What we have here is playful and vibrant prog rock with plenty of groove to the energetic compositions, and the things is that these tunes are actually surprisingly catchy considering all the elements and layers that are present in the music. There is something uplifting and even invigorating about this immersive experience and I might add that it also exudes a certain warmth and generally makes for a highly appealing listen.

The strange albeit unique aura sets it apart from many other progressive rock records out there and its cleverly arranged pieces are as special as they are charming. Check out the punchy "Iconoclast" or the dream-like melancholy that is "Under Mirrored Skies" – those are superbly executed epics in my book. Recommended!
