WRATHRONE – Eve of Infliction

WRATHRONE – Eve of Infliction

The Finnish underground death metal maniacs collectively known as Wrathrone have unleashed yet another torrent of murky and punishing riffs from the foulest corners of the depths, namely the concise and relatively short album entitled "Eve of Infliction", and this is great news if you dig the straightforward, old-school style of the aforementioned genre. One can easily draw parallels to some of the classic albums by the pioneers of classic death metal, but what makes Wrathrone’s particular brand of lethal music so interesting and sickeningly charming is the fact that they perform these eight hymns of darkness as if their lousy lives depended on it.

In other words, there is passion in spades here and also an abundance of thrills and hooks present on the cursed disc. Several thrash metal-influences sneak into the frame too and lend an 80s vibe to the proceedings, but this is a proper. horror-fueled old-school death metal onslaught through and through, and those jackhammer riffs of theirs will grind you down yet leave you begging for more. This is a crushing and deliciously ugly treat, but is it original? Fuck no, but this is quality all the way and convincing as hell. In short, "Eve of Infliction" is a highly enjoyable listen and utterly wicked stuff, and fans and fanatics of the genre seriously ought to give these skilled Finns a chance.
