SCATTERFACE – 2020

SCATTERFACE – 2020

  • Rating: 1.5 / 6

The German-based Scatterface dabbles in a mixture of synth wave, electro pop/rock, and industrial rock/metal, and this record of his, which is simply entitled ”2020”, is essentially a solo output albeit one that features several appearances by musicians and singers from around the world. How does the project fare then? Honestly, not that well. The whole thing consists of sixteen tracks and nearly all of them are bland and uninspired pieces that generally range from utterly generic to downright awful.

My main gripe with this disc is that there is hardly a single ounce of emotional depth or substance to be discovered here. Apart from the song named ”Lust II” (which has its moments and serves up some memorable passages and cool ideas), nothing really sticks and there are literally a million better and more worthwhile alternatives out there if you desire synth-laden, electronic music. In general, the vocals are dreadful and hardly complement the tunes while many of the melodies are unremarkable and forgettable.

”2020” is a meandering affair with very little to recommend it and way too many half-baked ideas coursing through it. There are many electronic and/or synth-driven artists and acts out there whose works I love to immerse myself in, but sadly, this particular effort by Scatterface is not one of them.
